The Liftable Cumbria MK2-DC is a 24-volt DC battery-powered straight stairlift. It was a popular model in UK homes before being discontinued, but plenty of them are still in daily use. Like any stairlift, it needs servicing from time to time. When something goes wrong, the LED indicator on the armrest is your first clue.
There's a small LED indicator light under the armrest. The colour tells you the current state of the stairlift.
The stairlift is ready to use. If it still won't move, check the key switch and the swivel seat position (see below).
There's a fault. The usual causes are the key switch being off, the swivel seat not being locked, safety edges stuck, or the footrest safety surface stuck.
Power is off, or the battery disconnect has tripped. Check the battery disconnect switch and the mains supply.
The main power supply is off. Check the mains socket at the top of the stairs, the plug, and the household fuse box.
Before you call us, try these safe checks. They often sort the issue, or at least help you describe the fault more accurately when you ring.
There's a standard 4-second delay between pressing the button and the stairlift starting. That's normal, not a fault.
Check the key switch on the armrest is turned on. The key can't be removed while the switch is on.
Make sure the swivel seat is locked in the operating position. The stairlift won't work if the seat is swivelled, or if it's not locked securely with the lever released.
Check the up and down safety surfaces (at the top and bottom of the carriage) haven't been knocked and stuck in position.
Check the footrest safety surface hasn't been knocked and stuck.
If no LED is showing at all (neither red nor green), check the battery disconnect switch hasn't tripped or been switched off.
If the stairlift beeps for 20 seconds each time it starts, check the mains supply is on at the socket at the top of the stairs, and that the mains adaptor is plugged in.
Check the power to the lift is on at the main household fuse box. If the power has been off for a while, the batteries will need several hours to recharge.
These checks are the only safe things to try yourself. Please don't open the carriage, remove covers, or attempt to reset any internal components. If the fault comes back, call us on 0800 567 7033.
